All the investigators had to do was show this to any 6-year-old:
Adam had lost both his top front baby teeth at the same time
When every kid loses their first top front tooth, they probably pray

This is how the story began
On a summer morning in South Florida
Little Adam’s mom took him shopping
She said she left him alone for a few minutes
Then couldn’t find him
The police and community searched for him:
But after no good clues for two weeks, this:
It was only a head, nothing else, severed at the neck
It was on the surface of a drainage canal, 125 miles north of Hollywood
Later that morning, a sad story about a lost little boy
Turned into a grotesque, unthinkable murder mystery:
Who indeed?
What did it mean?
Was it targeted, was it a message?
Or was it random, and was any child in South Florida left unguarded for even a moment, safe?
Who the hell knew?
That someone had found the head was merely unlikely
